How the Pet+ Puppy Pad works

How to train your dog to use it

Most dogs take to the Pet+ Puppy Pad right away thanks to the built-in pheromone layer. If yours needs a little encouragement, here's the approach that works best. Week 1 — Introduction 1. Place the pad in a quiet, consistent spot — near their existing potty area, or just inside the door they use to go out. 2. Walk your dog onto it a few times and let them sniff. No commands yet — let the pheromones do the work. 3. When they use it, praise them calmly and warmly. Treats help. Week 2 — Reinforcement - Bring them to the pad on their normal schedule: after meals, after naps, and after play. - If they have an accident nearby, clean it and place the soiled paper on the pad so the scent reinforces the spot. - Keep the pad in the same place during this phase — consistency matters more than anything. Week 3 and beyond Most dogs are fully using the pad by now. To shift its location, move it a few feet every few days rather than all at once. If it's not clicking - Try a bigger size — small dogs will use a Medium comfortably; larger dogs really do need the Large for success. - Move the pad closer to where they've been having accidents. - Check for competing scents — a new cleaner or strong fragrance nearby can confuse their instincts. Choosing the right size

Most pet parents pick based on their dog's size today. When you're on the edge between two sizes, size up — a bigger pad is more forgiving for accidents and gives your dog a clearer "this is the spot." Small — 16″ × 24″ Small size Puppy Pad Best for: toy breeds and puppies up to about 15 lbs. Examples: Chihuahua, Yorkshire Terrier, Pomeranian, Maltese, Toy Poodle. Medium — 28″ × 32″ Medium size Puppy Pad Best for: small and mid-size dogs, 15–45 lbs. Examples: Beagle, French Bulldog, Cocker Spaniel, Shih Tzu, Miniature Schnauzer. How to wash and care for your pad

Your Pet+ Puppy Pad is built for 300+ machine washes — about a year of daily use. Here's how to keep it working like new. Before the first wash No prep needed. You can use your pad straight out of the box — the pheromone layer is already active. Washing 1. Shake off any solid waste and rinse quickly if needed. 2. Machine wash on a cold or warm cycle. 3. No bleach — it can damage the pheromone layer and waterproof lining. Which detergent to use We recommend Pet+ Laundry Detergent Sheets. They're made for exactly this — fragrance-free (which keeps the pheromone signal intact), free of harsh chemicals that would break down the pad's special layers, and formulated with enzymes that handle pet hair and organic residue better than standard detergent. If you're using a different detergent, pick one that's fragrance-free and gentle. Avoid anything with bleach, brighteners, or strong perfumes. Drying Tumble dry on low, or hang to air dry. Avoid high heat — it can weaken the anti-slip base over time. How often to wash Most pet parents wash every 1–3 days, and rinse between washes if needed. Treat it like a heavily-used bath towel. When to replace You'll know it's time when the pad loses its absorbency or the bottom starts showing wear. For most households, that's around 300 washes — about a year of daily use.

My dog won't use the pad

Most dogs take to the Pet+ pad within days. If yours isn't, here are the fixes that work — in the order they usually matter. 1. Check the size This is the #1 reason dogs don't use the pad. A cramped pad feels wrong to them. If your dog is near the upper weight range for their current size, try the next size up. See our sizing guide. 2. Move the pad to where they already go Dogs like consistency. Put the pad where they've been going (or trying to go), not where you'd prefer. Once they're using it reliably, slowly move it toward the spot you want — a few feet every couple of days. 3. Remove competing scents Strong cleaners, air fresheners, or scented detergents near the pad can drown out the pheromone signal. If you've just mopped or steam-cleaned the area, give it a day. 4. Reinforce with their own scent If they've had an accident nearby, don't toss the paper towel right away. Place it briefly on the pad so their scent combines with the pheromones — the association usually clicks fast. 5. Stay calm about accidents Harsh reactions slow things down. Clean up quietly, reset, and praise them warmly when they do use the pad. Still stuck?
